The CLC was excited to provide this event to equip Texas Baptists for advocacy and to facilitate an opportunity for attendees to speak with their state representatives. The CLC also celebrated our 75th anniversary of advocacy and serving Texas Baptists, and enjoyed the attendance of several past CLC directors and staff.
On March 3, attendees heard from keynote speakers about Christian witness and responsibility in the public square.
Dr. Steve Bezner, Senior Pastor of Houston Northwest Church, spoke on the Church's role to impact local communities and be a prophetic voice in government.
Dr. Julio Guarneri, Executive Director of Texas Baptists, gave a message from Hebrews 11 & 12 on Christians' dual citizenship in God's kingdom and as earthly pilgrims.
Tim Alberta, journalist and author, addressed the question of how Christians can participate in politics without being distracted by the quest for power.
Attendees also heard from John Litzler, the CLC Director of Public Policy, about our four public policy priorities:
John shared about related current legislation for Texas 89th Legislative Session and gave tips on how to have an effective visit with representatives and senators.
On March 4, attendees took time to meet with their state representatives to advocate for Kingdom values. They also visited a session of the Texas Sentate and were recognized for the CLC's 75 years of advocacy. BGCT President, Ronnie Marriot, gave the opening prayer for the session.
